The Stage by Stage Code of Conduct is a set of measures which we hope will be observed by all staff and students, with the aim of creating the most productive and enjoyable environment for learning in drama, dance and singing. This code has been the centre of our practice since the school was created in 1994.
The first three principles relate to general conduct in and around Stage Studios.
SAFETY (• SAFETY IN CLASS • ROAD SAFETY •ARRIVING AND LEAVING)
Safety should be the first consideration of every person within Stage Studios. All teachers are expected to set tasks with this principle in mind and students, parents and guardians are asked to keep safety a priority in all activity within the building.
Stage Studios is located on a road which can be very busy at times. Road safety is therefore extremely important.
Arriving at, and departing from Stage Studios, should be undertaken with care. Parents, guardians and carers are reminded that staff can only supervise children whilst in the teaching rooms. We ask that all children are collected from the Studios, rather than from sites on the open street.
SECURITY (• DOORS • CODES • STRANGERS • VALUABLES)
In the interest of protecting the students and staff at Stage Studios, it is everybody's responsibility to ensure that people and property remain secure. The front door should be closed after every use and all areas with key-pad doors should remain locked when not in use. Door codes should never be given to strangers. Anyone who appears out of place in the building should be brought to the attention of a staff member.
Whilst we discourage everybody from bringing items of value to the Studios, any valuable property should always be kept in a secure location (such as the class safe-box or the office).
RESPECT (• OTHER STUDENTS • THE TEACHER-STUDENT RELATIONSHIP)
STAGE BY STAGE exists for everybody who wishes to learn more about drama, dance and singing. Theatre is a process which is about communication between people. As a result, every person at Stage Studios deserves to be treated with courtesy and consideration. STAGE BY STAGE is a school where everybody's ideas are valued, and consequently, everybody should be able to express their thoughts freely.
Teaching staff who work here are devoted to their disciplines and aim to assist every student fulfill their potential. The relationship between teacher and student should therefore be one of mutual value.
The second three principles relate to class conduct.
PREPARATION (• PUNCTUALITY • DRESS CODE • WARMING-UP)
Punctuality is a matter or organisation and courtesy. Lateness to class should occur only in exceptional circumstances. Correct uniform and grooming of hair is essential for safety and most effective learning.
Scripts or other equipment are usually essential for best practice. Proper physical and vocal warming-up prior to classes helps lessons to proceed swiftly.
STANDARD OF WORK (• DOING OUR BEST AT ALL TIMES)
At STAGE BY STAGE, we strive for the very best possible standard in everything we do. Only by pushing ourselves to the limit, do we extend our skills and abilities. This is the guiding ethos of all activity in the school.
COMPANY SPIRIT (• WORKING TOGETHER)
